On May 16th, 2006, to celebrate 40th Anniversary of Fo Guang Shan Monastery, Pilgrimage will be held, and later on with a series of Pilgrimage activities.

May 16th is the inauguration day of Fo Guang Shan Monastery and BLIA, which is recognized by US Government and BLIA members around the world as ¡§Fo Guang Day (Buddha Light Day)¡¨.

Venerable Master Hsing Yun noted that when Fo Guang Shan Monastery just inaugurated forty years ago, Venerable Master planned pilgrimage group from Taipei to Fo Guang Shan Monastery on weekend, for low bus fare.  Venerable Master thought that life is practice, for practice of Buddhism should not be apart from life, life also should not be apart from practice.  For this reason, pilgrimage is one of the main practices for monastics and devotees of Fo Guang Shan Monastery.  Although bowing to the ground, but the dignity raised because of r the bow. Bow is the communication with the Buddha, in heart.

May 16th is also the completion day of seven sessions of retreat for 49 days.

From May 16th, 2006 till May 16th, 2007, pilgrimage will be held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Those who participated for the first time will be presented with a pilgrimage bag.  Those who participated for 10 times, will be presented Drawing of Guanyin by Chang Da Qian.
