the Stupa to the Pagoda
Introduction:
After the Buddha's
parinirvana and the cremation of his body, found among the ashes
were corporeal remains of the Buddha in different shapes, sizes
and colors, known as the Buddha's “relics.” In order to express
their reverence and respect for the Buddha's relics, his disciples
constructed a reliquary called a stupa, in which they place these
relics. During the construction of this, and subsequent stupas,
we can see the use of many different architectural styles. For example,
the Diamond-Throne Pagoda at Mahabodhi, and the golden Shwedagon
Pagoda in Myanmar, and more.
